Excited to announce that the @EUCommission has updated it's follow buttons on the website footer!
What's that first platform there? Could that be #Mastodon?
And where did the link to #X go?
All the posts and comments here on Mastodon calling for this, trust me we read them!
@hpod16 @EUCommission
Nice. Now waiting for MEPs and for the commissioners
Huge respect for the EU Commission, @EUCommission, who have updated their webpage with a new follow button — X is out, Mastodon is in!
Remember to reward them with a follow! ♥️🇪🇺

Yesterday we formally launched the formal BeLibre movement with Christopher Peeters and Nicolas Pettiaux - we were hosted by Kenniscentrum Data & Maatschappij who did a wonderful job of making us feel completely at home! Thank you all!
thanks @BeLibre for your driving force!
count us in for the next steps!

#Firefox has cool new stuff!
c(ommand) h(elp) point... get it? aka m-x display-local-help
@gijs In my head the mnemonic is that it's like M-. but goes to help instead of definition.
@gijs @ericsfraga the "local help" system in generic, and is genrally used to display hints that modes insert into a buffer using text properties or overlays. With Flymake for example it will print the highlighted warning or error message at point.

Thanks for the "about:translation" feature!
Today we launched https://code.overheid.nl: the NL government-wide code platform 🥳🥳
Code.overheid.nl is a pilot in which we are going to test @forgejo; an open source and sovereign alternative to GitHub/GitLab.
This is an initiative of @BZKopensource, in collaboration with our friends from team DAWO (SSC-ICT), @opensource , @developer , and a number of participating government orgs. 🤝
@tomootes from developer.overheid wrote a nice piece about it: https://developer.overheid.nl/blog/2026/04/24/we-gaan-samen-code-overheid-bouwen
And yes the styling, esp in dark theme, will soon be improved. 😅
@Gina
Congratulations!
As someone who's more familiar with GitLab, how does Forgejo compare to the (open source) GitLab CE?
Edit: found https://forgejo.org/compare/ which partly answers this.
@forgejo @BZKopensource @tomootes @bo @johan @marlenabcn @opensource @developer
@developer

@Gina @forgejo @BZKopensource @tomootes @bo @johan @marlenabcn @opensource @developer Awesome! I wish #Canadians could similarly get their acts together. There is a limp-biscuited, vague policy on sovereignty here, but nothing to speak of really seems to come from it:

@Gina @forgejo @BZKopensource @tomootes @bo @johan @marlenabcn @opensource @developer
It seems to be hosted at Odidio. That's weird.

Great. Have they decided how they will be sponsoring @Codeberg yet?
@wsslmn @Gina @wlaatje @forgejo @BZKopensource @tomootes @bo @marlenabcn cool, we'll be having monthly community meets where you can present stuff!
@wsslmn @Gina @wlaatje @forgejo @BZKopensource @tomootes @bo @marlenabcn but I am curious what it is...
Pretty strong negative dynamic #electricity prices for consumers in the #Netherlands this afternoon. After tax.
Up to minus €0.47 per kWh.
We’ve awarded a €180M tender for sovereign cloud to four European providers.
This enables EU institutions, bodies, offices & agencies (Union entities) to procure sovereign cloud services.
Scaling the use of EU cloud is key to strengthening Europe’s digital sovereignty.
https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/ip_26_833
@HennaVirkkunen: excellent! Which providers are we talking about?
@HennaVirkkunen Oh nice, does that mean we'll soon be able to consult EU laws online without running random #JavaScript from #AWS servers?
@HennaVirkkunen For those who are curious:
„The four awarded providers are European companies: Post Telecom with its partners CleverCloud and OVHcloud, StackIT, Scaleway, and finally Proximus, which partners with S3NS (a joint venture of Thales and Google Cloud), Clarence and Mistral.“
If we want to encourage providers to offer sovereign digital solutions, we must make sovereignty a requirement in our procurement. 💶
The Commission awarded Sovereign Cloud call for tender through which the EU institutions, bodies, offices and agencies will be able to procure sovereign cloud services for up to EUR 180 million over a period of 6 years.
And the results are clear – sovereign European solutions exist.
Also cursed.
@Gina this is like my laptop. it took a while to not turn it off accidentally .-.
@Gina If you're running Linux, it might be possible to "unmap" the key so it won't trigger a shutdown (a long press would still force the power off, I think).
@Gina so many questions now! But I see this model still has a G-stick, those are becoming rare, and I love them.
@Gina I'm pretty sure there must be some engineers working on this stuff who must wholeheartedly hate people.
@Gina they've re-invented the Mac Quadra models that put the power switch precisely where you would expect the floppy eject button
In the world of international education, training and career mobility, a person's achievements can easily get... lost in translation?
The European Learning Model aims to solve this by creating a universal ‘backbone’ that describes learning in a multilingual format.
A few tools are shared as open source on https://code.europa.eu, to allow reuse and help others to link their own systems.

It's SO REFRESHING to hear Marietje Schaake (former EU MP 🇪🇺) make the case for #digitalsovereignty and #opensource EU-based alternatives NOT JUST to protect European interests and European data, but also to protect human rights in the US and abroad.
@Gina could you tell us more about her argument?
@prex we should choose more open source EU-based solutions, because US big tech companies support bad regimes that violate human rights (like the Trump regime, Israel etc).
@Gina and this would benefit US users in that they have more options right? Hoping that EU tech doesn't become as interlinked with bad regimes as US tech
